A biological antioxidant, lipoic acid (also known as thioctic acid) is readily absorbed and rapidly converted to its reduced form in many tissues. This compound appears to be unique in its ability to exert antioxidant action in both water-soluble and fat-soluble domains. Many studies using lipoic acid for neurological support have employed dosages of 600-1,800 mg. A 300-mg dose per capsule allows for more efficient dosing.
